When starting your own business you will need to register your business name and then get a tax id number. The main reason for obtaining a tax id number for your business is so you don't have to give out your Social Security Number to online business when signing up for various ad or affiliate services.

The most common small business created by individuals will fall under the sole proprietorship entity. This is a business owned by one person. There is no legal difference between the owner and the business. The Individual is responsible for all debt and gains the business encounters.

The first thing to do is come up with a business name that is not already in use. Once you have a name then it will need to be registered at your county clerk’s office as a trade name or fictitious name, this will protect your new business name from other people trying to use it. Some people just use their personal name as the business name.
