The higher your page ranking the closer to the top of the search results list your website will be displayed. The goal is to be at the top of the list or at least on the first page. Google uses links to your website as votes, the higher the votes the higher your PageRank number will be. The PageRank scale is 0 - 10 with 10 being the best rank for any given website. Google is very smart and the weighting is not equal, the link from a well known website will be worth more than a link from an unknown new website.
